Film 101
19 May 2008
It was seriously fun, seriously challenging and by Sunday afternoon, seriously stressful. Childless team members occasionally looked harassed by Meg’s squeely hut making in our bedroom (aka the editing suite) but little do they know that she was modeling lovely toddler behaviour.
The only people who played up were the adults – there’s nothing like a deadline to bring out the worst. But by 6pm we had, miraculously, a finished product. Or so we thought.
Sitting down with a wine to watch a complete run-through before handing it in we realised with horror that we hadn’t cut the sound of us filming. So the film is punctuated with all these voices saying things like “Aww that’s awesome,” and “We need some light over here ...”. But time was up.
Thankfully we weren’t the only ones limping to the finish. One group waited for their precious footage to arrive in another car that never came, and another had so much computer strife they had to walk away.
I’ll never watch a film the same way again. There are so many things that need to come together that I now understand why the credits are always so long.
We’ll get our moment of glory and shame at the screening next weekend. Can’t wait.
