The Game

Craig Purnell (Father)
It is cold and rainy outside. My three year old boy needs a run around and my wife needs fresh air after being indoors with our baby for three days. Off we go!
With us is also my mother in law, who puts on a brave face in the cutting wind. My little girl is happy though. She is tucked up in the pram, in her fluffy sleeping bag, that looks fit for a camping trip up the Himalaya`s.
We have made it to the park like great explorers to the pole. Temperatures rise when the football appears. Our boy soon gets us running as he barks out orders like a Premiership Manager. Although I am not sure that a manager would throw himself to the ground crying and screaming if he couldn’t get his way only to be restored to sanity by an organic rice cracker.
Mother in law is not doing too badly in goal. She is moving like gazelle considering she is 64, wearing three long Johns, two cardigans, a scarf and overcoat and bearing more resemblance to the Michelin man.
My wife’s even nature makes her the perfect referee.
I cannot believe it………..
She has just shown me the red card and sent me off………
To put on the tea.
