Ski Wives

4 July 2008
Lisa Jaggi (Toddler)

In winter time around here we become...not  ‘Army Wives’, ‘Footballers Wives’, or even ‘Desperate Housewives’…but one wouldn’t be too wrong for calling us…’Ski Wives’.    It suddenly occurred to me the other day as I rolled up to the local ski area with Tarn dressed in a snow suit and me carrying my ski gear instead of a handbag, what actually defines as such.

To pick a ‘Ski Wife’ you would have to demonstrate the following traits:   Be dressed in thermal underwear from head to toe, be wielding both ski poles and child in one arm, and have skis and enormous backpack containing the said child’s necessities slung over the other shoulder.  Not to mention the look of utter excitement at the sight of snow on arrival, which quickly turns to a look of flustered disbelief at the thought of how complicated a day on the slopes has become compared to the pre-child era not so long ago.

When the mums and babes are finally settled into their ‘station’ for the morning, snacks and toys are spread out, the children are settled and embarking on the usual battle that is ‘sharing’…the rotation suddenly begins…and continues…until each mother/wife has come back with a run or two under her belt and a sense of ‘Aaaahhh…it really is worth it!’ (From time to time…he he he)

Ps.  Into my 14th week of pregnancy now...feeling a bit better...the fresh air up the mountain helps!
