Finding Time for Fitness

Being a mom is a full time job. Add a full time job to that, and you may wonder how to find time for anything, let alone fitness. Being a full time working mom who would like to maintain her sanity, requires careful planning and execution. Organizing your home life just as you do your work life won’t give you more hours in your day, but it will help you be more productive with your available hours. Here are my tips to help working moms stay organized and find time for fitness.

Tip #1

Create and pursue S.M.A.R.T. goals. Prioritize your time outside the office instead of getting distracted with tasks that take up a lot of your time, but don’t help you reach your goals. Your goal may be to spend more time reading to your children or making dinner with your family or training for a half marathon. Maximize your time by determining your family goals and your fitness goals and implementing S.M.A.R.T. to achieve them.  Learn more here

Tip #2
Go to bed. I find that for most working moms, including me, the only way to fit in a workout is to get up before the sun rises and the kids are up. Scheduling your workouts for the week and setting your alarm for 5am may sound crazy, but if finding time for fitness is a goal, this is how you will get it done.  An early morning workout will help you be more productive and focused throughout your work day. Just make sure you get to bed by 9!

Tip #3
Just say no! Drinks after work. Dinner with your girlfriends. It sounds like so much fun, but with a full time job and a full time family, you need to prioritize your time, or something will suffer. Either your health and wellness will suffer, or the health of your relationship with your partner or your children will suffer. I enjoy catching up with my girlfriends over an early morning run that gets me back home to shower before my husband and kids begin their day. Plus, having a workout partner will help you be more accountable, getting you closer to reaching your goals!

We’re all short on time, but setting goals and finding time for fitness will have a positive impact on all areas of your life.
